Eirik Aswang is a fashion/costume designer, painter, and sculptor
that was born in San Francisco in the later half of the 20th century.
Eirik started his career as a fine arts painter and still paints
to this day when he can find the time; the same goes for sculpture. As
of now his art is still floating around the internet and few art
galleries around the U.S. and a few galleries and art shops around the
world.
Fashion entered Eiriks life when he was engaged. He and his
wife to be would go to shops on Haight St. in San Francisco and many of
the things that the Elaine (the wife to be) wanted was too expensive
and made of leather. So, Eirik figured he would just start making
things for her out of the upholstery vinyl that was left over from
Eirik’s dads old upholstery shop. That lasted till the relationship
ended.
Later Eirik really started to take the fetish scene seriously and
started making gear again with the help of his friend Paradox who was
one of the main reasons to make gear again. After Eirik realized he was
really good at making fetish gear and the like, it no longer became a
hobby.
Eiriks first official line would have to be dated in 2007. He
stopped using vinyl and started using recycled neoprene the recycled
neoprene gear is what got Eirik noticed. Eirik has work primarily with
the neoprene till 2008, now he is working with proper vinyl’s and
leather in addition to the neoprene, and may fabrics
Eirik doesn’t consider himself a fashion designer since he is self
taught, he considers himself an artist and his “clothing” wearable
sculpture.
Currently he his working on a limited edition line of corsets that will utilize his painting background.
